Trezor — Get Started

Securely set up your hardware wallet and manage crypto with confidence.

Start in minutes — protect your crypto for years

This guide walks you through receiving your Trezor device, initializing it, creating a backup, and using recommended best practices for ongoing safety. Follow each step carefully and keep your recovery information private.

1

Unbox and verify

Open the package and confirm the tamper-evident seal. Only use the official cable that came with the device. If the seal is broken or packaging looks altered, contact support before connecting.

2

Connect and initialize

Connect the device to your computer or phone using the included cable. Visit the official web manager or app and follow the on-screen prompts to create a new wallet. Never enter seed words into a computer — write them down on the supplied card instead.

3

Write down your recovery seed

The recovery seed (12/24 words) is the only way to restore funds if your device is lost or damaged. Store it offline in more than one secure location; do not store it digitally or share it with anyone.

4

Set a strong PIN

Choose a PIN that is easy for you to remember but hard to guess. The device will lock after several incorrect attempts; optionally enable passphrase protection for an extra layer of defense.

5

Receive and verify transactions

Always verify receiving addresses on the device screen, not just on the computer. For sending, confirm destination, amount, and fees on the hardware device display before approving.

Security best practices

  • Never share your recovery seed or enter it online.
  • Keep firmware updated using the device’s official tool.
  • Use a dedicated computer or mobile device when possible.
  • Consider splitting your backup into multiple secure locations.

If you suspect a compromise, move funds to a fresh wallet immediately.
